Elbow

The elbow is a synovial hinge joint between the humerus (upper arm bone) and the radius and ulna (forearm bones). It includes prominent landmarks such as the olecranon, the elbow pit, the lateral and medial epicondyles. The elbow allows the forearm to move away or towards the body. The three main muscles that allow elbow flexion (bending elbow) are the brachialis, brachioradialis, and the biceps brachii. The main muscle involved in elbow extension (straightening elbow) is the triceps brachii.

Pain in the elbow may be due to a variety of reasons including pain coming from the joint itself of referred pain from surrounding structures (ligaments, tendons, muscle, and nerves.) Pain may also be related to inflammation, physical trauma, and/or general wear and tear. Our office can perform evaluations to determine the cause of discomfort and provide the appropriate treatment.
