What's Wrong With This Picture?
I ran out of honey the other day and asked a friend to pick up some for me and she came up with this: I was about to mindlessly put it in my tea when I looked at the ingredient list: Do you spot anything strange? Uh, it isn't honey. Food sure has gotten weird these days. You can try your hardest to do the right things, replace that 'bad' white sugar with a more 'natural' sweetener like honey, but if you don't look closely, you find that you are accidentally just consuming even more high fructose corn syrup.
So what is an informed consumer to do? Here are three choices:
1. Eliminate all sugar, in any form, from your diet. I know there are some diet gurus out there who advocate this, but myself, I like a little honey in my tea from time to time.
2. Get your own bees, raise 'em up right, and harvest your own honey. I'm not quite at this point. Anyone locally want to pass your hand-raised bees' honey to me?
3. Buy organic honey and read the label, and make sure that 'honey' is the only thing on the ingredient list. Use in moderation and enjoy!!
Sweetness to you in all forms and keep moving!! Dr. V.
