Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?
Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is essentially a pinched nerve in the wrist. There are a number of potential causes for carpal tunnel syndrome that really can only be narrowed down to a pattern of your hand use, the anatomy of your wrist, and other various health problems.
Anatomy of the Wrist and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
To understand CTS, you’ll need to understand the anatomy of the wrist. Within the wrist is the carpal tunnel, as illustrated above. Within the carpal tunnel, there is a nerve, which can be pinched off by the surrounding tendons and nerves also contained in the carpal tunnel.
Carpal Tunnel Injections
CTS can be treated both surgically and non-surgically. Many patients receive benefit through injections at the median nerve as it traverses the carpal tunnel. These injections are always done under ultrasound guidance and may be done with steroid, very low dose steroid, or regenerative products such as platelet lysate.
